Winter is Here!
Winter is definitely here on Gwynn’s Island. We’ve had very cold temperatures and several inches of snow already this month. But spring is right around the corner-the daffodils are already showing their heads!
We were just notified that our Ruby the Hummingbird plush toys are complete and being prepared for shipment. We cannot wait to share them with Hawk and Hummingbird® readers and fans! Here’s a peek of our Ruby toys packaged and ready for shipping.
The French translation of the second book in the Hawk and Hummingbird® book series, the Clock, is complete. The books will be available soon. Gipsy Paladini once again did an excellent job on the translation and she will start with book three, The Treasure, very soon. The Spanish version of book one is getting one last proofread.
Once again, Mermaid Cove will be participating in this year’s Gwynn’s Island Festival. The festival will be on Saturday, June 28, 9am-4pm. This is a fun day with arts and craft vendors galore, food, music, and children’s activities. Plan a visit to Gwynn’s Island for the festival.
Part of the production in making the Gwynn’s Island Cookbook involves setting up and taking photoshoots of many of the completed recipes, as well as photos of Gwynn’s Island in various seasons. Pentax K-30 and Pentax K1 cameras are being used in the professional production photos for the cookbook. A key factor to a good cookbook are professional images.
Have you caught a glimpse of the Hawk and the Hummingbird® Activity and Coloring book cover on social media? We’ll keep you updated on the printing process and when the books are expected to be available.
Stay warm, dry, and cozy…and don’t forget:
True life mermaids (or mermen) believe in themselves, they embrace their creativity and live life to the fullest.
Updates from the writer’s desk…
Earlier on my FB page, I asked followers to give me a few writing prompts that I could use to help stimulate creativity. I have completed a couple and have many more to go and am trying to do so before the end of the month. If you are at a creative writing impasse or suffering from writer's block, sometimes it helps to stimulate your creativity by using something like a 3 Word Prompt. Have someone give you three random words, then write a poem or short story using those three words.
I tried it with a short poem style called a Tyburn. A Tyburn poem is a six-line poem consisting of 2,2,2,2,9,9 syllable sentence structure. The first four lines rhyme and are all descriptive words, while the last two lines rhyme and incorporate the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines as the 5th through 8th syllables. The words I was given were The Children Laughed. Here is what I came up with:
Poem Title: Recess
Swinging
Running
Dancing
Playing
The children laughed, swinging, playing fun
The school bell rings, dancing, running done
Let me know what you think. Give it a try. I would be interested in reading what you come up with. Here are three words to use: Winter, Tree, Bird. Thanks, and take care!
