Follow the Mermaid into 2025
We are so excited for our upcoming projects this year! The Hawk and the Hummingbird® Coloring and Activity Book is currently in the printing process and the Spanish version of The Hawk and the Hummingbird® And the Hurricane is in the design phase. In addition to that, we have more plushies, a custom Ruby the Ruby-throated Hummingbird plush toy, and custom bookmarks coming soon! And let’s not forget that Tibby Goes to the Beach and the Gwynn’s Island Cookbook is in production and will be published later this year.
Mermaid Cove Publishing is currently open for book submissions. Have you written a book, have an idea for a book, or would you like to discuss the book writing and publishing process? Have a friend or family member wanting to publish a book? The layout and design of the Spanish version of The Hawk and the Hummingbird® And the Hurricane, ¡El halcón y el colibri y el huracán!, is in full swing. We hope to have it ready for print in a few weeks. Our translators for this Spanish version are Maynard Dodson and Claudia González Botero. Maynard and Claudia have been great to work with and invaluable in the translation process of this book. We look forward to working with them again in the future.
Our creative studio has been printing, framing, and producing new items weekly. Here’s a glimpse of some of the items we’ve been working on. Hopefully these images will give you memories of warmer days.

Happy New Year everyone! Wow! 2025! It is January and the busy holiday season is over. Most of us are back home from our holiday visits with family and our visitors have left for their homes. Old man winter is settling in here on the island. Trees are leaf bare, frosty mornings are more common. The holidays happen during the shortest and darkest days of the year. The festive lights help to illuminate those long dark days along with the cheerfulness of time spent with family and friends. January brings us hope and excitement for a new year. As the month progresses, yes it is cold and sometimes the snow blows, however the days continue to get longer. Signs of an emerging Spring are everywhere.
On the island, this is the month the daffodils begin to grow and pop through the frozen ground, frost and snow. The crocus appear in their purple and white glory. And the tulips get their winter chill that sets their movements into motion to give us their springtime glory. This is the time we look forward to, because a whole new year is ahead of us. What will we see? What will we do? What will we accomplish? What will we taste? What will we smell? What will we discover?
I wish each and every one of you a Happy New Year. Thank you for making last year so pleasant and I look forward to seeing you in 2025. The calendar is already shaping up and it looks like another busy year. The Hawk and the Hummingbird Activity and Coloring book is at the press and will be available soon. I hope to finish the fourth installment of the series this Spring and there are also some children’s picture books in the works. As the days lengthen, take a moment to look around at the Winter beauty that surrounds you. Enjoy that special winter food or warm drink. Thank you again for all your love and support throughout 2024. I look forward to spending 2025 with you!
