As we work on the production of photographic prints and giclée’s, we look for unique photo printing options and techniques. We recently received new art papers from Red River Paper that we are excited to use. The Polar Luster Metallic and the Polar Gloss Metallic papers give our prints a unique metallic look. These fine art papers will give a shimmering finish that will make the artist’s image stand out with a depth and dimension unique to metallic prints.
Do you know what a giclée is? The word giclée (pronounced zhee-clay) is a French word that means “that which is sprayed”. The giclée printing process began in the 1980’s when high-resolution digital scans were used in conjunction with archival quality inks. For a print to truly be a giclée, there are three basic requirements that must be met. There must be a combination of a high-resolution image, the correct paper, and a high-resolution inkjet printer using pigment-based inks. Even though giclée printing is a type of inkjet printing, not all inkjet prints are giclée prints due to these requirements.
If you’re interested in learning more about giclée’s and the print process, read our blog post, “What is a Giclée?” here.
