Haiku Poems

Autumn in the air

Leaves change to golden and red

Squirrels look for food

The Haiku is an unrhymed poetic form consisting of 17 syllables arranged in three lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively. Originating in the 17th century in Japan, haiku poems are a popular form for poets both classic and contemporary. A classical Japanese haiku uses natural imagery. While most of us wrote a haiku or two in English class as children have you tried one recently? Share it with us the comments.

Here is a haiku we came up with about Autumn.

Autumn in the air

Leaves change to golden and red

Squirrels look for food
