Happy Autumn

It’s time for fall foliage, campfires, pumpkins, and the migration of some of our birds. We just returned from a relaxing vacation in Maine where we experienced an “early” fall for us as the leaves were already changing, we enjoyed campfires and cozy blankets, and pumpkins were everywhere. Upon our return to Virginia, we found that our hummingbirds had finally headed south, and the nights are becoming cooler. What a beautiful time of the year!

This week is exciting for us as we host the book launch and signing for Until the Cardinals Carry Me Home with Melany Slaughter on Thursday, September 25th from 4 to 6 pm. The book launch will be held at the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal office where Melany has worked as a reporter for the past six years. This debut poetry collection focuses on Melany’s walk through the grief she experienced after her grandmother passed away from suicide several years ago. As detailed in an article in the Gazette-Journal, “In the midst of her grief, writing became like breathing for Slaughter, a way to process what had happened.” Plan to join us on Thursday as we celebrate this accomplishment with Melany. Books will be available for purchase at the event. Read more about Melany and the article about her poetic journey on our website here, https://mermaidcoveproductions.com/m-p-slaughter

Mathews Market Days a few weeks ago was a great weekend. Welcome to our new newsletter readers that we met at Market Days! Thank you to all that attended and a special thank you to the Market Days committee. Our next festival will be in Warrenton, VA at the Old Town Warrenton Fall Festival on Saturday, October 4th. It’s sure to be a great weekend!

While in Maine, we visited the South Bristol Elementary School and the children who helped Scott write his new release book, Fisherman Bob and the Flabberjack. The children were very excited to get their very own signed copy of the newly released book, and they were already coming up with ideas for a new book! Fisherman Bob and the Flabberjack is a colorful picture book full of beautiful illustrations by our very own Helena Crevel. The book will be available October 3rd.
