Playing in an April shower

Tibby the Mouse knows how to have fun no matter the weather. From “playing in an April shower” to “smelling a red flower.” And as they say, April showers bring May flowers and we have had our share of rain here in Virginia so far this month.

Looking for something to do this weekend? If you live in the Middle Peninsula of VA, love books, and wish to support local authors, then join us at the first annual Gloucester Book Fair this Saturday, April 19, being held at the Fine Arts Museum of Gloucester. The museum is located on Main Street and the book fair will be held from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Visit the website here for more information, https://www.gloucesterartsfestival.com/bookfair

After visiting the book fair head over to Gloucester Brewing for their all-day fundraiser to raise awareness and funds to support finding a cure for Parkinson’s – April is Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month. Live music and food all day as well as a silent auction with items from local businesses. Come out and show your support. More information here, https://www.facebook.com/share/1BPFmnB5nj/

Our Gwynn’s Island cookbook, Shared Memories Buoyant Life, is nearing completion! We are applying the finishing touches, wrapping up the photoshoots, and perfecting the recipes. Our goal is to have the books available at this year’s Gwynn’s Island Festival in June. We began this project as not only a cookbook, but as a work filled with the essence of Gywnn’s Island and her people.

In June, Mermaid Cove Productions, in conjunction with the Gwynn’s Island Festival, will host a photography contest and exhibit to benefit the Gwynn’s Island Museum. Coastal Reverie, Musings of Virginia’s Coastal Shores from the Photographer’s Eye, will feature a collection of photographic works showcasing the uniqueness, beauty, and depth of our region’s shores as seen through the lens of a camera. The exhibit opening reception will take place on Friday, June 27, 6:30-9:00pm and the exhibit will remain at the museum through July 5th. If you love art or are a photographer and interested in learning more, please visit our website for more information and entry forms.
