Happy November!

Can you believe the holiday season is now upon us? October was very busy for Mermaid Cove, and we look forward to a slower pace during the next few months. In October we participated in three straight weekends of festivals. We started off at the Wine & Garlic Festival at Rebec Vineyards in Amherst, VA, then it was on to Charleston, WV for the West Virginia Book Festival, and lastly, we spent two busy days at the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville, TN. We met many young readers, up and coming authors and illustrators, and enthusiast parents and grandparents. Next year’s calendar is already filling up, so keep an eye on our newsletter and website to find out where we’ll be.

Our website has recently been updated so please check it out. The Creative Studio division of Mermaid Cove is up and running and you’ll find more information on what we are doing there, as well as further helpful information for new authors in the Publishing division. Connect to us here,

Here is some exciting news! We would like to welcome Helena Crevel to Mermaid Cove as our in-house illustrator. Helena has many years of experience as an illustrator, specializing in children's book illustrations. She is the dedicated illustrator for The Hawk and Hummingbird® book series and has been essential in the making of the activity book. Helena lives in Paris France, and we were very fortunate to meet her in person and spend time with her earlier this fall. Stay tuned for more in-depth information on Helena including her bio and portfolio.

Meet Helena Crevel

The activity book for The Hawk and the Hummingbird® books series is almost done! It will be full of coloring pages, word searches, mazes, connect-a-dots, and so much more! Helena has made awesome coloring illustrations for us, and we can’t wait to get to the printing stage. Here’s just a small sample of the fun activities you’ll find in the book.

The Gwynn’s Island Cookbook is still in production, and we anticipate bringing that to you in the first part of next year. We can’t wait to share with you many delicious recipes, especially those that use our local seafood, as well as beautiful photographs of Gwynn’s Island. In our next newsletter we’ll share just one of the many recipes you’ll find in “Shared Memories, Buoyant Life”.

Remember: True life mermaids (or mermen) believe in themselves, they embrace their creativity and live life to the fullest.

Updates from the writer’s desk…

Wow! October turned out to be very busy for me! It started with two days at the Rebec Wine and Garlic Festival, then a quick trip to Charleston West Virginia for the West Virginia Book Festival and then down to Nashville for the Southern Festival of Books. What a wonderful time at each festival and I am so humbled by the support and encouragement showed. Thank you to all that I met and for all that supported me through the purchase of The Hawk and Hummingbird books. The fourth book in the series is in the writing stage and each and every one of you continue to inspire me in my writing. I think you will love the new Hawk and Hummingbird Activity Book that is currently in production. I hope to have an update on a new series of books for our younger readers in the near future, so stay tuned!

You may not know, however I am also a photographer. I have been developing my photography style and taking photos for over 35 years. It began with 35mm film and naturally transitioned to DSLR photography. Last month, Angie with Mermaid Cove Productions began printing my work in earnest and the reception has been beyond what I could ever have imagined. We sold prints at each of the festivals and I currently have larger prints at two of the Rappahannock Art League November exhibits and I exhibited at the Kilmarnock Museum fund raiser. My print, Fire on Water, was awarded Runner Up. Considering it was my first entry ever and the amount of artwork entered, I was once again humbled by my work's reception. Thanks again for your love and support and I look forward to see each of you again soon. Until then, remember to be like Ruby and take time to stop and smell the flowers and appreciate nature's beauty every day. Take care!
