My Favorite Season

Fall is my favorite season. Each season brings something that I like though. Spring with the new flowers, bright green leaves, and warmer afternoons. Summer with its long days, early morning sunshine, and warm evenings. Winter with its stark contrasts to Summer, silent snow falls, and days spent by the woodstove. However, it is Fall that I enjoy the most.

Naturally, the changing leaves are spectacular when you can catch them. But I like the transition from Summer to Fall. The air is cooler, crisper, and seems clearer and clearer. Where we live there is a lot of humidity during the summer, and the change in the air in the Fall chases the humidity away and the sky seems bluer. You get to put on that sweatshirt and sit outside with a warm cup of coffee or tea, and take in the smells of the damp ground or freshly fallen moist leaves. The fire in the firepit feels better. Warm apple pie or cider.

Late Fall can bring that first frost with amazing ice crystals with all kinds of geometric shapes. A cold full moon with glowing carved pumpkins. For us, Fall brings a more northerly or North East wind that comes from the ocean and across the Bay with its fresh, crisp and salty air.

I enjoy all the seasons for what they bring, but I enjoy the Fall the best. I’d be interested in hearing what your favorite season is and why.
